Know the world offered is not free
Can’t you roll the dice, one for death and one for life?
Roll for the one that will take you in, or the one that will tell you to go
But you won’t be ready
Lie there wondering when it’s your turn to evolve into something better
A better breather, a better thinker, a better do-er
But you’re too consumed with the ever time consuming guilt who cares not for your self worth
Or his for that matter
Only what he can sneak through the back door
Just ask the dog! He’s never depressed, lives his life without a life vest
And there you go, trying to impress Another Wonder Another Scam Another Lover Another Man
Another dream about your past you can’t let go, and so you laugh about Another-
Another day another way to make a dollar and spend ten before days end
Don’t ask you know who, he doesn’t know
Too busy putting on the horse and pony show
So you ask yourself, and yourself says, “don’t ask me, I’m in the red.”
Yourself rolled the death of something
Another life deferred
Too young they’ll say too bright they’ll say but in the end,
They’ll be off spending what was left of your mess on a new vest for the dog.
I wrote this in the dead of winter near the end of 2008. It was about that time where I really started to think about time, aging, death, and having a companion. Winter brings macabre thoughts, yet my lyrics still come out sickeningly sweet. On a funny note, one Sunday at my old church, I sang this and at the end of the hook, instead of saying, “Our love will LAST a lifetime”, I kept singing, “Our love is FOR a lifetime”. Each time I sang it, it felt wrong, but I couldn’t remember the actual words. I’m sure I looked funny when I was singing it too. Who does that?!? To their own song??
No need to ask why I love you
Please don’t wonder if I cry
It’s time that they tell us we should be running from
But I know that’s a lie
Don’t, don’t be afraid to live
When we got so much more to give
As sure as the day breaks
Even when the sun won’t shine
Our love will last a lifetime.
Oh this winter, so cold, so mean and cold
Believe me it cuts to my bones too
We spend the dark dark nights worrying about the world
When that’s for the good Lord to do
Wait, wait, wait and see
Oh would you wait for me?
As sure as the day breaks
Even when the sun won’t shine
Our love will last a lifetime.
Can you hear love calling you out?
It’s calling out your name!
As sure as the day breaks
Even when the sun won’t shine
Our love will last a lifetime.
